Here’s the Thing…..
Fibalon technology is just like the iphone was to the flip phone
The Flip Phone made calls but was otherwise severely limited by today’s standards.
Sand & Cartridges are the Flip Phone. They filter water but have too many hassles or restrictions for most of us.
Fibalon is the iphone.
It filters better, finer, faster, utilizes silver ions to restrict biofilm growth, is lighter, less expensive, requires far less cleaning, lasts longer overall, easy to rinse off & reuse, and is recyclable too. Think of it as a 2-3 year cleaning plan…if not longer depending on use. And remember, its not new. Just newer to the US
A Little History on the Invention / Creation & Why
Fibalon of Germany invented the entire ‘fine-spun filter ball’ technology in 2012 and today is the foremost international source for hotel pools, olympic sports pools, and your above ground pool, inground pool…..and spas
A 30 year textile engineer was tasked with finding a way to filter municipal grey water at the same time Pepsico of India needed a better way to filter river water faster & finer, to eventually make soda after purification
With success in those, why not swimming pools? Slight modifications of the original fibers then spun into balls, proved to filter finer and faster than traditional sand & cartridge filter tanks
It’s not new. Over 1,000,000 sold worldwide and in Germany alone, 20,000 pools each year switch from sand or cartridges over to Fibalon. Now selling successfully in the US to consumers like you as well as professional pool maintenance teams
They Look Like This
One Bag is 8 Pouches Attached End to End (called Bag of ROPE)
Easy Install - Easy Pull to Rinse
18 of those Balls in a Tough Mesh Pouch (you don’t handle gross balls)
Single Fiber Filter Ball
One Bag = 50 lbs of Sand. Easy to Install and Pull to Rinse Off
Here’s Why & How We Filter Better Than Sand or Cartridges
The problem has always been with sand or cartridges, in that they only filter one dimensionally, meaning only on their surface. Even a full sand tank just uses the top few inches to collect pool crud. A cartridge is a thin fabric and only collects on the surface of one side.
Fibalon balls allow water to flow through to the core, so pool crud is collected and trapped completely through each ball. This means far more collected crud over a far longer period of time, which means far longer between cleaning cycles. Depending on pool use, that might 1 year but can often be 2-3 years. Then rinse and reuse for years to come.
Pool crud only penetrates to upper layer which builds up pressure, leading to backwashing
Cartridges are worse, getting that pool crud out is a mess
Fibalon balls allow pool crud deep to its core, but still easy to spray & rinse. Imagine 18 balls to a pouch, and 8 pouches of pool crud. That could take years to completely fill, depending on use
The Silver Ion Factor
In an expensive and patented process, Fibalon fibers are charged with silver ions that do not dissipate over time. Those silver ions in the fine fibers in each ball, suspend and reduce the reproduction of many common microorganisms in pool water.
Although its a fact that silver and silver ions have a anitmicrobial effect on bacteria and various funji, Fibalon can not and does not claim that its silver ion charged fibers will eliminate bacteria in your pool or spa. But with that said, the fact remains that some microorganisms are eliminated because of the silver aspect, and reproduction of more in restricted.
Installation is Easy, and So Is Removing to Clean Later
Whether a tank is full of sand or Fibalon, the bottom laterals should be protected under a layer of gravel
Add the connected pouches of ROPE in a spiral, and keep layering in spirals as best you can
The idea is to prevent an easy visible path to the bottom gravel. Think like water. Pouches on each layer should cover any gap below (sort of like bricks on wall)
The goal is a depth of 16” - 20” of pouches. More is fine too. Even 24” won’t slow down the flow or increase pressure. You can also use the 50lb rule: 1 Bag = 50lbs of Sand
Forget Sand. Its cheap but that’s about it. Its heavy and is inefficient in that only the top few inches do that filtering.
How Much to Order ??
50 lbs of Sand = 1 Bag of Fibalon Rope. But Also Note That 16” - 18” depth of Rope is the Goal
=
Working up to 18”
Knowing the diameter of your tank, one Rope spirals into a 24” circle, and each spiral is 6” tall. So three layered spirals give you 18” of dry depth.
Also, interestingly, in Europe its already illegal to backwash into your yard. Its considered toxic residential waste. More and more US areas are disallowing backwash into yards & sewer systems.
Fibalon Products Go Through Rigid European Testing at Independent Laboratories.
This stating ‘no new bacteria colonies growing within the ball fibers’ due to presence of Silver Ions

It just works. It has no choice but to work. Water passing through each filter ball traps far more pool crud than sand or cartridges. Plus, the spun fibers are charged with Silver Ions which hold & restrict growth of algae and bacteria. Google ‘silver & microorganisms’
